Toilet Paper Debate of '08...

Here we are back home from our lovely Oregon Coast vacation where we had many a campfire debate. So, I have one question for all of you smart internety peoples.

Which way should toilet paper be hung? So the open end is over the top or under?

Ok, I know it's 2 questions, but the second one is for clarificational purposes.

  4. I'd say over the top, but I'd like to point out that if you have curious children and/or cats, it's easier for them to make a mess. :-)

  6. Well, now...I'm glad to give you imput! As I have used toilet paper more in my life than you, as well as dealt with multiple personalities watching me in the bathroom, let me assure you, that in an "emergency" or "crisis", it is important to have it come from under, so a snap of the wrist can produce the right size for dealing with the, should we say, "issue at hand". If you doubt me, do try a one-handed version of a snap of toilet paper both ways. I assure you, you will agree that the "under" variety snaps off the exact measure of toilet tissue desired. As sometimes, the other hand could be occupied, with, say, holding back a curious child, this is an important and crucial paper issue...we do know how certain children would be attracted to an unsightly long, dangling length of toilet tissue when the other hand is otherwise occupied....Trust me, with 5 children, you really won't care what the toilet paper looks like, but that you can deal with the really important issue of "wiping". Besides, when the right length snaps off, the bottom of it is left behind the roll. AND...I really don't care about staging toilet paper!! From you ready-to-give-you-never-before thought-through-bathroom problems mom-in-law :)

  9. OVER THE TOP for sure!

Even the professionals do that, just look at every hotel room, they even add the little point... couldn't do that if it was under.... 'Nuf said.

And I too will happily change it when I'm at other people's houses only so as to better their overall household appearance (to be more inline with mine). :)

  10. OVER THE TOP...end of story MOM!!!! I cannot believe she really believes it's the other way. That being said...I think we need to be kind and listen to everyone's opinion....even those of the mentally handicapped who have clearly used all their brain activity to be able to come onto this board and type out that they believe it goes under. Don't worry, if you mix it up again I will come to your assited living home and fix the toilet paper for you!!!

  11. This is the best debate ever! I used to not care either way, but I have been an "over" ever since college. It's nice to go "over" so that you can do that fancy schmancy triangle-y thing that the hotels do...
