I bought this lonely, unwanted twin size headboard from the thrift store a month ago:
I've seen a bunch of headboard revamps around the blogisphere so I snatched that baby up.
It was on CLEARANCE. At a thrift store. What did I pay? $2.00 + tax.
That's right, TWO BUCKEROOS! The thrifty lady who dwells inside of me rejoiced.
I hauled it over to my parents house and cajoled my father into slicing off the legs for me.
I bet you can guess what I did next, right???
Sand, prime and spray paint. It's pretty much my new motto.
Then took a two week break (*ahem* FOUR) where I hemmed and hawed over how to finish up my project in an adorable, yet wallet-friendly (read: FREE) way.
First up, installed un-free (booooo) yet functional hooks:
Then hemmed and hawed some more before I personalized it and threw it on the wall. Well, not threw, but ya know what I mean.
Meet the newest revamped member of our family:

Previously under used and not very gaze-worthy towel bar replaced with uber cute, functional (and thrifty) hooded towel hanger. Extremely tiny kids bathroom punched up with some sassy, low-profile functionality.
And yes, I only have TWO children. What can I say, we give LOTS of baths around here which creates many towel needs. That, and I actually finished the laundry and was thrilled to be able to use my newly revamped...uh...thing. Headboardhoodedtowelhangerthingymajig.
However, at least I now
I have noticed that the beautiful apple green clashes HORRIBLY with my contractor dark yellow-beige bathroom walls...thus I will GLADLY welcome paint color suggestions!

How darling! The decoupaged letters make it even cuter. With that many hooded towels you need a "showcase" :0) Wally is adorable too!
ReplyDeleteThat came out super cute. If you don't have a theme in there, I would the walls a Rubber Ducky yellow. As soon as I saw the Splish Splash in the headboard I started thinking about this --even before you asked for suggestions. I immediately thought--Oh it would be so cute to go with a rubber ducky theme. You could get paint pens in a bright blue and hand write around the top of your walls--splish splash I was takin' a bath all on a Saturday Night. Or you could go bright blue and add opaque bubbles and I would still write across the top.

* Navy blue -- if you're feeling bold
* Any shade of brown
* Any shade of gray
* White -- *yawn*
* Dark purple
Just some thoughts I had. I love picking out colors! I've always wanted to do a room apple green and navy blue, with some silver accents. Fabulous!

I love the towel rack, what a great idea! I have to recommend against a dark color for a small bathroom, where the whole wall is concerned. I did that once, and wasn't really happy with it. Of course, I painted the walls first, and nothing else got redone or made nice (it wasn't my bathroom), so that may have been the actual problem rather than the color. But it seems to me that if you have lots of brightly-colored accessories, neutral walls might not be a bad idea. I love Colonial Cream, by Benjamin Moore! (On another day, I will probably think that bright colors are the way to go).
