Lofty Nutritional Goals

I have been one of those Mama's who vowed nutritional perfection for her offspring.

Have been. Past tense. As in NOT PRESENT tense.

Sure I was the devoted breastfeeding, home babyfood makin' Mama. I fully intend to do the same for future kiddos as well.

Today for lunch? Bubbalu snorfed down a whole packet of Easy Mac.

That's right. I admit it openly, Easy Mac. I luv this stuff. It is yummy, easy to make, and did I mention the cheese? Why does it taste so much better than the now outdated box with cheese powder packet? I cannot describe the allure of Easy Mac with enough kind words.

Bubbalu has become increasingly picky with his food. From what I read and have been told, it is perfectly normal for a 14 month old to do this.

Bubbalu had some catching up to do his first year of life. Being born extra small and coming home tipping the scales at 5 lbs meant a LOT of catch-up. He ate with a vigor I though not possible for such a tiny human. Holding him off on solids until 6 months was NOT easy. Still, I prevailed, and on his 6 month old b-day, rice cereal was offered. It was a hit. His look seemed to say, "Mama!? What IS this stuff? GIVE ME MORE." He ate most things I offered gladly, yet stayed at less than 10% (and sometimes 5%) body weight. At about a year he sailed to 45% and the parents rejoiced. He's normal. He's nourished. His brain is growing. We should get a medal.

Fast forward a month. Yes, staying at the 40ish % and eating picky. Hard to get used to.

I have to wonder: is it strange that my child has only eaten a total of 3 peas in the last week to satisfy his veggie quota? The fruit quota is met with applesauce and maybe the juice that was on the cut up mandarin slices that were spit out. And those dehydrated "toddler friendly" fruit in that baby isle? The look Grandma got from Bubbalu was, "lady, you have GOT to be kidding me".

My child ate Easy Mac for lunch. Spit out one dehydrated fruit morsel and sucked down some whole milk.

Alrightly then.

Sorry to the UPS guy...

I'm hanging out at the parents house when I hear a knock at the door. I look out the front window and see the UPS truck idling at the curb. I don't see the delivery person walking back to the truck, so I get up to get the door, thinking I'll have to sign for delivery.

Open front door, UPS guy is halfway down the driveway, and a quick scan of the front porch reveals no familiar brown wrapped box.

I YELL from the porch, "DO YOU HAVE A PACKAGE?".

Can't.Belive.I.Just.Said.That.

He looked at me funny, and said it was just to my right. Oh, yeah, there it is. Slink back into the house in shame, mortification, and horror.

Favorite Find Friday : Car Care

How many of you have a dirty, dusty, grimy, gross car dash? We do.

OR DID.

Yesterday evening Mom and I were out running errands (aka going to Dairy Queen for PBP's). I had about 15 minutes to kill while waiting for Mom. So I sat and sang along with Sara Evans, watched people unload a moving truck...blah.

Then I remembered how dirty my windshield wipers were...as in useless. So, I opened my glove box and pulled out this little powerhouse:

Oh yes, I luv to clean my car. Travel size multi-surface wipes are my friends.

First I used a wipe to clean my windshield wipers (FRONT AND BACK! Saying it just like Ross). The wipe was pretty grimy, so I grabbed another one and attacked all dashboard surfaces. My car was dirrrrty.

Eww.

I also cleaned the rear view mirror and my side mirrors, because you can use them on glass & mirrors! See? Multi-surface. It's a beautiful thing.

I had a clean fresh car paired with new vanillaroma tree thingy.... I was proud of my accomplishment.

Mom got back in the car and I HAD to show her my hard work. Seriously, I turned on the overhead light and pointed out the grime on my used cleaning wipes. She was moved. I could tell.

AND...I could see out my windshield. It's nice to be safe driving at night while it's raining.

If only they made a wipe big enough for me to clean the OUTSIDE of my car.

But I'm not sure they would fit in my glove box.

On The Road Again....

Things I saw while driving today:
  • A majestic eagle perched in a scraggly tree overlooking a glassy lake. I think it looked at me.
  • Ok, I didn't SEE this, but I could SMELL the country...they were spreading again. Ahh, fertilizer.
  • A big tractor that I thought wasn't going to stop in time for me...but it did.
  • Many Canadian plates driving into the states to shop, because the US dollar is worth mud.
  • A ranch-style house, run down and unkempt, with what had to be 14 cars in the front yard. Not sure if that is legal in our parts.
  • A new car I've never seen before : A Nissan Rogue. Was curious where they got the name from. X-MEN? What would a Wolverine vehicle look like? Even worse, what about a Magneto car? That just wouldn't work at all. Talk about high insurance rates. Geico wouldn't be a lick of help.
  • Yet another Starbucks invasion...which I wholeheartedly support. After all, my creamers are getting low.
  • An empty car seat. Don't panic, all is good. MIL graciously offered some get out and go shopping time. Cranky attitude miraculously disappeared after "therapy".
